Mylan's 2nd Annual Halloween Party

Every year Mylan has a Halloween Party at our house. He talks about it all year long. He invites 5 of his friends and my hubby and I invited our friends who have little kids. In our house, we don't allow all that typical gross and horrifying Halloween stuff. So most of our decorations are spiders, webs, pumpkins and handmade decorations. Since Mylan is a boy and boys like gross things we make up for that by having creepy, gross fun foods and he helps me make most of the decor. We use our back room for the main party area. Last year we decorated it with lots of spider webs and a few pumpkins. We used a plastic spider web table cloth and hung it up over the doorway and then cut it into strips. The littler kids thought it was fun to walk through. We also played games: Monster Freeze Dance and Mummy Wrap. This year the party will be October the 13th. I'll let you know how it goes and I'll try to take lots of pics. Last year I didn't take any pictures because I forgot to. I got so busy trying to make sure the party went smooth and everything was under control. We had a million kids running around last year but most of the moms stayed and helped while the dads hung out in the garage.

A Busy Saturday

This morning our little guy woke me up at 6 am! Eek! I am NOT a morning person! Especially at 6 am on a Saturday morning! I woke up to these little hands feeling around in the dark and a little voice saying, "Daddy?" I reminded him that Daddy had to work this morning and asked what he needed. He told me that he didn't feel good. I suggested that he try to go back to sleep. So he crawled into bed with me. Not even five minutes goes by and he tells me again that he does not feel well. Then he takes off running to the bathroom. Half asleep I try to find my way into the bathroom to check on him. I find him sitting on his step stool with his head over the toilet. I ask him what his tummy feels like and he tells me that he just thinks that he is hungry. That would make sense because he didn't eat much of his dinner the night before. So I make him some peanut butter toast and a glass of ice water (I wasn't going to risk him throwing up his usual glass of milk. Yuck!). So he curls up in a blanket at the coffee table and eats his toast with no problem at all and watches cartoons. I go back to sleep for another hour and wake up to hear him running at full speed into the bedroom (I figure he must be feeling better.) asking if he can play '2K7 MLB' or some thing like that (an XBox360 game).

Later, we head out for his soccer game. Although he can't participate in the game he still wore his jersey and went out to support his team. His mom is one of the assistant coaches, so he ended up helping her coach leaving me to sit all alone on the bench. But I didn't mind, it's all a part of being the fabulous step-mom that I am. Not to toot my own horn or anything!

Then it was time to go to my hubby's yearly work picnic which was being held at the zoo this year! We had a lot of fun! I love to go to the zoo! It brings out the kid in me I guess. It's probably a sight to see me and the little guy running ahead of my hubby to the next site. We can't help it, we are just so excited to see what's next! It was a bummer that I forgot my camera though because we saw lots of cool animals doing lots of cute things! Luckily I got two pictures on my camera phone just before the battery went dead. Oops, I am terrible about charging that thing up.
The hippos were huge! Although, the sign read "Don't feed the animals!", a little girl gave the hippos some grass and I couldn't help but to snap a picture of this hippo with it's mouth wide open. Being in the dental field, I couldn't help but to suggest some Crest White Strips to him but the hippo didn't seem to care!
The little Prairie Dogs were so cute too! They looked so cuddly! They were so funny because they would communicate by one of them popping up and making this squeaking noise and then pop back down only to see another one pop up and make the same noise and then several more did the same thing. It's was pretty neat to watch them doing that. I caught a picture of this little guy through the glass wall because he had his hole right there next to it.

My favorite part of the zoo is the monkeys and gorillas. The gorillas were all asleep so they weren't much fun. The monkeys were all asleep too, except for one. This particular monkey was really funny! At first he wiped a few "eye boogers" from his eyes and began to smell it. After that he dug in his nose for a nice juicy booger and then ate it! Eww! As if that wasn't enough, he did it several more times! Then he started playing with an old torn up t-shirt. He had his arm stuck in the t-shirt and had a hard time getting it off. Once he got it off of his arm he got it around his neck like a necklace and just kept spinning it around and around and around his neck like he was looking for the end of it. He was pulling on it so hard that it finally broke and he ended up throwing it on the ground. Once he threw it on the ground he climbed down off of the platform he was on and began peeing on the ripped t-shirt. We couldn't stop laughing! Then he picked up and few pieces of carrots and ate them.

After the zoo, we went to the store to buy me a new pair of tennis shoes and my hubby and polo shirt. I hate shopping! We were there much too long for my comfort! From there we went to a Mexican restaurant for dinner.

It was a good day with my boys!

What's in store for the weekend?

Since our little guy is out of commission for his weekend sports activities my boys have gone to a high school football game tonight. Which leaves me all alone. It's kind of nice to have the house to myself. So...I have pigged out on Doritos (yummy!), watched what ever I wanted to watch on tv (no sports), done the laundry and the dishes. In a few minutes I plan to take a nice hot bath but the only problem is that my current book is in the car that the boys took. A bath just isn't the same without a good book. Oh man!

Saturday, my hubby has to work (as usual) so the little guy and I plan to go to his soccer game to cheer on his team even though he can't play. Later, after my hubby gets home, we plan to go to the zoo for my hubby's yearly work picnic! Fun, fun!

Sunday, my hubby has a soft ball game and the little guy is going to go and watch. While they do that I will be at church teaching Sunday school. I asure you, this is not something we make a habit by allowing our child to skip out on church. Then we all plan to go to JCPenny's because I need a new pair of shoes since mine are now falling apart. Then we are off to support our little guy's baseball team even though he can't play in that either. By Monday he'll be okay by the doc to play again. We just need to be sure that his pulled muscle is healed up properly.

Trying to keep up

Our little guy has been practicing his baseball skills non-stop. Now he has a pulled muscle in his chest. The doctor said that he can't do sports or outdoor recess for 5-7 days. He is not happy about it at all. He takes his sports very seriously. He is now playing in a baseball scrimmage on Sundays and has soccer games on Saturdays. Busy, busy.

Mylan calls me out

Today we had baseball practice. I really don't like to get outside in the dirt and heat and practice baseball but I go with minimal complaining because Mylan loves it when I do. We played catch (I throw horrible. My aim is way off), the boys played soft toss, Mylan played catchers position while Larry pitched, then Mylan hit while I played out field, then Larry tried me out in pitching so that he could watch Mylan's swing timing better. My pitching only frustrated everyone because I can't aim right and I was so afraid that I'd hit Mylan with the ball. So that was the end of that. Then we did Mylan's favorite activity. He plays catchers position while Larry stands at shortstop and I stand at third base. Larry drops the ball which symbolizes that the ball has been hit. I take off running while Larry throws it to Mylan and he has to tag me out. Although it is his favorite activity, it is my least favorite. Larry would ask him if he wanted to stop and I would nod "YES, YES!" and Mylan would say, "No" and then says to me, "Your just being lazy." So I've been called out. He caught me, I'm lazy! It was funny to hear him say it though.

Labor Day Weekend

This has been a very lazy weekend.

Friday, I did some mad house cleaning and laundry while the boys played Xbox and did boy stuff.

Saturday night, Mylan and I set up the tent in the back room and had a sleep over. We goofed around making farting noises and played shadow puppets! I didn't sleep very well though because he slept walked twice and the floor was so uncomfortable.

Today, Sunday, Larry did the yard work while Mylan and I went for a walk and explored some bicycle trails and played at the park. Then Larry and Mylan played football in the front yard. Me? I did nothing today.

Mylan has started playing soccer. He is so excited! He loves to play soccer. He has practice Tuesday and Thursday nights and on Sunday he will be doing a scrimmage baseball game with some older boys for the next 6 weeks. Our neighbor, John, sponsors a baseball team and has been watching Mylan and Larry practicing in the front yard. He thinks Mylan is pretty good and talked to the coach about Mylan trying out for their team. Mylan typically plays the catcher position, which he loves. However, The kids are older and bigger than Mylan. So they wanted to have him play in a scrimmage for 6wks. Mylan is thrilled to play with the older boys. I think he is a little nervous but hasn't really shown that yet. My hubby has been telling him over and over again that it is just for fun and that no matter what he doesn't want Mylan to get frustrated or discouraged and that no matter what he will be proud of Mylan. Either way, it will be a good experience for Mylan that not a lot of kids his age get to experience.

Lookout people, our boy will be playing in the big leagues one day! Get your autographs here! Hey...what can I say, I am a proud a parent!!
